Double Columnar Transposition Cipher
 
A double columnar transposition cipher, also known as a double transposition cipher, was used by the U.S. Army in World War I, and is very similar to the German's Übchi code. It is simply one columnar transposition followed by another, for more detail on how this works please see our columnar transposition page. This cipher forms a portion of the Kryptos, particularly the third part of Kryptos. This can be entered into the tool below and decoded for you. The three offset letters (y, a, r) are shown in lowercase as well as the first letter of the decoded message to help show you where they are
