The European Voynich Alphabet, or EVA was developed by René Zandbergen and Gabriel Landini as a possible solution to translate the unknown characters in the Voynich Manuscript into modern Roman characters.
The Voynich Manuscript, which has been called 'The Most Mysterious Manuscript in the World', was discovered in 1912 by the Polish-American antique book dealer and collector, Wilfrid M. Voynich, after whom it is named. It was found amongst a collection of ancient manuscripts kept in Villa Mondragone in Frascati, near Rome. At present the Voynich manuscript is item MS 408 in the Beinecke Rare Book Library of Yale University
